Last Wed. night we packed up our stuff and headed to New Jersey...of course this was easier said than done. We are used to setting a "go" time and just walking out the door. Not the case anymore! During the last minute diaper change Kaelyn peed all over everything which resulted in having to change our cute travel clothes :( Kaelyn did well in her first long car trip but upon arriving and grandma & grandpa Dale's house she was not a happy camper! Kaleyn has been rather colicky, falling asleep only to wake from what seemed like perfect rest in a screaming fit (not hungry or dirty but rather in pain). She'd also been having some "digestive" issues....so Cindy started doing some research and talking to friends that had been in similar situations. One thing she kept coming across was that often babies that display these symptoms have a food allergy...the most common being dairy (followed by soy). Well, a decision was made to see if this was the culprit. So on Thanksgiving Kaelyn spent the day meeting cousins and being passed around while Cindy tried to figure out what to eat that didn't contain milk, cheese or butter (no mashed potatoes this year- Okay some things she ate did have butter like pecan pie). Kaelyn seemed to improve almost over night. She spit up less, her "digestive issues" seemed to greatly improve, she was less gas-filled, no more random screaming and we could actually put her down for a little while during the day. So we are going to stick with this dairy/soy free diet for a while-it seems most babies out grow dairy/soy allergies in 3/4 months. This presents an interesting challenge as Cindy doesn't eat meat (occasionally she will have some chicken or turkey) and instead used a lot of soy products to get ample prote
in in her diet. Although Cindy was vegan for some time in college( eating no food with animal products in them) so she should be able to adjust to this new diet, poor Jeff is going to have to get his fair share of dairy during lunch.
Note: some women store milk so that they have enough to indulge in a night of drinking or a glass of wine when they wish....Cindy is storing dairy/ soy free milk so that she can indulge in a peppermint- chip milk shake from chick -fil-a....priorities!

REALLY hope this works for all of you! She is such a beautiful baby. We can't wait to see all of you again on Christmas Day!
