Loving the Sling

When Cindy traveled in Africa in the summer of 2008 she noticed that women carried their babies in a sling on their back. So when registering for baby items we thought a sling would be a good idea. Unfortunately the thing is rather complicated for a simple piece of fabric. Although we tried multiple times to get Kaelyn in the sling it was awkward and she screamed...that is until Ellen came to visit! Ellen is a friend that Cindy met when she traveled to Tanzania and is one awesome person. She gave birth to her daughter Cecelia in July and so Kaelyn and Cecelia had their first play date last week. While over visiting Ellen not only made tofu tacos for lunch but also taught Cindy the skill of wearing a baby in a sling. Since then we have used the sling multiple times and Kaelyn really likes it. The trick is she has to be 1/2 asleep before attempting to put her in. The sling allows Cindy to get some house work done during the day as she has 2 hands available instead of one. For those of you who haven't met Kaelyn yet, you might be thinking, why not just lay her down for a nap? Kaelyn loves to be held at all times. We can maybe put her down for 10 minutes at any point throughout the day (she does sit in her bouncy chair for about 30 minutes in the morning while Cindy showers and such...but after that she wants nothing to do with it). So thanks Ellen for liberating Cindy's left arm so that she can get some laundry done during the day!

  1. I'm so proud...and happy that the sling is working out for you - it will make SUCH a difference. Of course I'm saying that trapped with Cecelia laying across my lap on the boppy zonked with a milk coma afraid to move...but when she's in the sling - look out! Have a Happy Thanksgiving - we'll get together again soon! I'll bring more baby-wearing devices for you to try out :)
